Scientists using the Very Large Telescope at the European Southern Observatory in northern Chile have observed a dark spot on Neptune alongside a smaller bright point, the first such sighting from Earth.^[1] The detection is reported in a study published in Nature Astronomy. The dark spot and the smaller bright point were resolved with the VLT at ESO's site in northern Chile, and the team's account of the observation marks the first time the features have been captured from the ground.
