Astronauts aboard NASA's Artemis II mission observed five distinct flashes caused by micrometeorites impacting the lunar surface. [^1]

The crew saw the flashes with their unaided eyes during a solar eclipse on the sixth day of the mission. NASA has released the Artemis II Preliminary Lunar Science Report which includes data on these observations. [^2] [^3]

Kelsey Young, NASA's lunar science operations lead, has stated she did not expect the crew to see any micrometeorites during the mission. [^4]
