NASA astronauts Jessica Watkins and Luke Delaney, CSA astronaut Joshua Kutryk and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergey Teteryatnikov are scheduled to launch to the International Space Station for a long duration science mission on 1 October 2026.[3] Liftoff will occur no earlier than 11:10 a.m. EDT from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.[1] All missions scheduled this week will use return-to-launch-site landing.[5] On 23 September 2026, the joint European-Chinese Smile mission was declared ready to begin formal science operations.[4] The European Space Agency has set a target to limit creation of new debris in Earth and lunar orbits by 2030 through its Zero Debris initiative.[2]
