Lockheed Martin said in September 2026 that the U.S. Army awarded it $200 million to rebuild more M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System launchers to the M270A2 standard.^[1] The contract comes as rocket artillery remains active on two fronts. The Armed Forces of Russia launched a combined rocket and drone strike against Ukraine on the night of September 22.^[2] A day earlier, Leonid Sharov, spokesman for Russia's Battlegroup West, stated that the battlegroup downed one US-made HIMARS rocket over the prior 24 hours.^[3] On the other side of the Pacific, North Korea's Rocket Forces conducted tests of a new type of weapon on September 20 under the observation of leader Kim Jong Un.^[6] The test follows a firepower strike drill announced on September 14 that involved artillery and missile units featuring new combat systems, including attack drones, tactical cruise missiles, large-caliber multiple rocket launchers and tactical ballistic missiles.^[4]
