The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched August 30 2026 aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Kennedy Space Center, Florida.[3] The observatory carries the name of Nancy Grace Roman, NASA's first chief of astronomy and the agency's first female executive.[1] Once operational, the telescope will create enormous, detailed maps of the sky.[2] Falcon Heavy's next assigned flight is Griffin Mission One, scheduled no earlier than December 2026. That flight will deliver an Astrobotic built lunar lander to the surface of the Moon.[4]
