On 2026-09-20, a team led by Alessandro Marchini, Leonardo Stiaccini, Gaia Verna, and Giacomo Bonnoli reported that the radio galaxy NGC 1275 reached an extreme optical magnitude of 12.629 ± 0.003 in the R band and 13.137 ± 0.004 in the V band.[1] The observations were made on 2026-09-19 using the 0.30 m telescope at the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Siena, which carries the IAU MPC code K54.[2] The findings were published in The Astronomer's Telegram and filed on 2026-09-20 by the same group of researchers from the University of Siena and INAF - Brera.[1]
